"#Buildsomething is the mantra of the coworking community at Industry, a call to all creators to build something, anything, to make the world a better place. AIGA and Industry called on Charlotte artists to build a skate deck gallery for Industry's shared workspace. This is their collection of work to inspire originality for years to come."
This past month, in an effort to design more for myself, I decided to enter a design in the #Buildsomething skate deck gallery. After several ideas that included images of a young Jackée and the dreams she had as well as a strange idea about writings on the wall (what?), I took a break to listen to some music and collect my thoughts. That break turned into several days of "designers block" which turned into nothing short of frustration. Then one Saturday, while feeling pretty down about design in general, I heard the opening lines of Wale's song Sunshine. "May the optimism of tomorrow, be your foundation for today." I'd heard this song countless times but this time, it stuck. These words are now somewhat of a mantra for me as I navigate this world of design and discover how I can make the world a better place with the gifts I've been given.
I hope you enjoy the works of these talented artist.
Be encouraged, Be inspired. Be great.
