There's nothing more excited then the release of a new movie! ...At least for me... I love wondering what twists and turns, relationships, or comedic relief will come my way when I watch a new movie for the first time. What better way to get fans buzzing than the release of the movie poster??
In honor of South by Southwest (SXSW) Film week, which started yesterday, I thought it would be fun to share a few of my favorite movie posters. Some were created after the films were released while other's were posted in the lobbies of our favorite movie theaters.
Juno, Interstellar, Forrest Gump, and The Lord of the Rings: The Two Towers are great examples of minimalist design. In this case minimalist design is the "use of the fewest and barest essentials or elements, as in the arts, literature or design." The designers used very minimal design elements to effectively portray the concept of these four films.
Lincoln and Jurassic Park's posters are just so beautifully done I had to include them. They both portray a sense of mystery to me. The peace yet turmoil expressed by the black and white image of Daniel Day-Lewis draws us in and makes us what to know Lincoln's story, thoughts, and motives, while Jurassic Park's poster brings out the curiosity of our inner child and makes us think "What's behind those gates?"
I hope this makes you want give the movie posters you see a closer look.
What's your favorite movie poster?
Last August I signed up for online social media courses. I was so excited to get started and become Social Media Certified in just 13-short weeks. Well life happened, as it does, and I slowly kept putting of my goal to take care of "more important things" like paying bills and working on freelance project. Has this ever happened to any of you? Have you ever found yourself so excited to start something new only to find that the fire dies due to that unavoidable thing called life? Well this time, I'm back at it! I have a plan of action and the drive that nothing is going to get in the way of this goal.
My first class is all about Twitter. Just when I thought I knew most of the ins and outs of that social media network, I was surprised and delighted to learn some new things, implement what I learned, and see results almost instantly. Here are some tips that I found especially interesting.
You need to be INTERESTED rather than interesting.
Really? It's not about having more followers than people who you follow you? That was my first mistake! I thought it "looked better" to have the more people following me. It's more important to show that you are interested in what is going on around you than to be the most interesting person in your Twitterverse. So start following everyone! Well...at least everyone you want to.
Start by using the "Who to Follow" feature located on the #Discover page. This feature gives you a list of people with common interests as you/your company. Go ahead, follow as many as you can. Follow up with using the "Find Friends" and "Popular Accounts" features. The "Find Friends" feature pulls from your e-mail address and other social media accounts to show you who's on Twitter that you might not have known about, while the "Popular Accounts" feature gives you access to, well, popular accounts!
Tell the World!
Sure your friends and family know you have a Twitter account, but what about people you interact with via good ol' fashion e-mail? That's right! Add you social media links to the signature included at the end of every e-mail you send! Why didn't I think of that?! Don't be shy--tell the world!
Engage, Interact, Ask
Got something to say? Say it! Engage with your audience. Twitter isn't just for telling people what's going on with you/your business. It's about networking. Ask your followers questions and answer/comment on tweets that some of your favorite accounts post. Interact with them, don't just shout from your soapbox, build relationships with you social network. Your tweets should be 90% engagement and 10% about you.
This stuff really works! I started this class with a little over 100 followers and after implementing what I've learned in the past 2 days (no kidding), I'm at 175 followers and counting. Not only am I seeing growth but I'm seeing interest. Because I'm interested in what people have to say and share, I'm becoming more interesting! Who knew??!!!
